Image
At our pod meeting, there were some questions that came up about using the HCM tab in epic. This is where you should make sure everything is updated so that your patients get credit for getting their items completed. In the dashboard tab of epic on the upper right hand side clinic on “link to quality measure instructional videos”. (see screen shot below). FW: Outpatient OB Prenatal Template

Image
In order to try to standardize how FM and WHS document prenatal records and make viewing the pregnancy information easier, we have made an outpatient OB prenatal template to go in the overview section. This will make the entire pregnancy summary available for anyone who has access to epic or care everywhere and will make a much faster view of the pregnancy when the patient presents to labor and delivery. Instructions for overview section: Add “pregnancy” or “high risk pregnancy” to your problem list Remember to link the pregnancy problem to that specific pregnancy episode (this will allow it to drop off once the pregnancy episode is complete). Go to details under the problem and click the “link” box Use the dot phrase is .sanrprenataloverview in the overview section. This should be an overview of the plan for the entire pregnancy. The problem list is supposed to show what needs to be done for antenatal testing, etc, not act as the progress note for the visit. Upda...

FW: Suboxone Update - Ordering Naloxone, standing order available in Colorado

Hi All! Update on Naloxone (Narcan) prescriptions since we just worked through this in clinic today, pharmacists please feel free to chime in with other advice- We had some difficulty ordering this in Epic  –  we found individual orders for “Ezvio” or Naltrexone auto-injector or nasal spray but not a kit.   If anyone has figured out the best way to order, please let us know. However – speaking with the pharmacist there is a standing order for any patient or family member available in Colorado – it can be for either the nasal spray (vastly preferred by patients and families) or the autoinjector or an IM injection.  If a patient requests Narcan the pharmacist will talk to the patient and see which type they prefer and which is covered by their insurance.  The prescription is sent out under Dr. Wolk in Denver (CMO of Colorado Department of Health) Here is the link with the protocol if you have questions- https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/...

September Clinic Updates

Image
Hi All, Here are the September clinic updates: 144 th has an iSTAT machine for the convenience care clinic—it can run a CBC and a BMP (not a CMP like I said before) in just a few minutes if you want to use it instead of STAT labs through LabCorp. New urine drug screens are available called ToxAssure—see attached document for their testing capacity. Flu shots are here—give them to your patients and get one for yourself. Vaccine change—we’re changing vaccine vendors so work with your MA and double check your vaccine orders to make sure you’re using the correct combo vaccines. You might see “Amazon” on your reason for visit—this just means the patient responded to a marketing flyer they received in the mail. LEARN module: Corporate Responsibility 2018 due by Sept 30 th —do it! On October 1 st —we’re going to start sending all pathology (paps, biopsies, etc.) to LabCorp instead of MetroPath —there will be separate email detailing how to do this later. ...

FW: Suboxone Update

Dear faculty, staff, partners,   As a team we have chosen to introduce Medication Assisted Treatment into our clinics. This decision was made in response to the increased number of deaths we have seen in our patients suffering from opiate use disorder in Colorado.  We feel it is essential for us to provide patients with an opportunity to survive living with this disorder.  As a result, we will be offering Medication Assisted treatment in the form of suboxone inductions, group visits for patients on a stable dose of suboxone, Behavioral health support for patients suffering from opiate use disorder, and help with transitions to higher level care at Behavioral Health Group or Community Reach (when needed).    Our first induction will be scheduled on September 10 th . We are hoping to schedule one induction (start of suboxone treatment) every Monday afternoon over the next few weeks.  Any patient interested in induction must have a visit for a ...
