Important - Optional telephone visit for clinic patients
Optional process for telephone visits for patients scheduled for low-acuity visits –
This would include things like visits for elderly patients, easy med refills, depression/anxiety follow-up, mild acute illness, other visit you think could be done over the phone
-Providers are encouraged to look at your clinic schedule prior to your clinic half-day (day prior or half-day prior)
-Providers have the option of identifying higher risk patients who you would recommend not physically coming to clinic and we can offer them a phone visit.
-Ask the MA lead, admin MA or your MA to call patients prior to the visit so that we can offer them the option of a phone visit during their clinic visit time.
-We are working on scripting for these calls
-If the patient would like a phone visit rather than coming in, the MA will mark that on the Epic schedule.
-The provider can call the patient during the clinic visit timeframe and create a telephone encounter, document your note, include how much time you spent on the call
-Providers should keep a physical list of patients for whom you do a telephone visit – especially important for resident numbers.
-On day of visit give the front desk a copy of the list of the patients you spoke to by phone so they can be marked as “Cancelled-provider” (so the patient doesn’t get a no-show letter)
Front desk will pass the copy of the lists on to Tracey
-We do not currently have a way to bill for a phone visit but that may come in the future with true telemedicine visits.
-For providers who are production-based, we are looking at creating a telephone visit-only clinic schedule (next week can be Beth, Ryan and Sharry if we match) and your patients could be moved there so your schedule can be backfilled with an in-person visit. Let us know if you would like to use the option of having another provider doing your phone visits
-Alternatively you can trade an in-person visit with a phone visit from a core faculty member since we are not currently production-based.
True Telemedicine visits are likely coming in the near future but we wanted to roll this out in the meantime.
Also please keep in mind the Covid-19 situation in CO will like change dramatically in the coming days so this may be modified.
Stay strong!
