North Metro Region Covid-19 Update

Date:  08.21.2020

*Combined provider/staff update this week, if you have questions please do not reply all*

Have a great weekend!

ACGME Site Visit Completed! –  Our Residency Program site visit was completed 8/19-8/20 and went very well!   There is not a timeline for the ACGME response/recommendations but we feel good about how things went.  THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this and made it successful!

A special thanks to Sharry Veres and Jennifer Stradley whose incredibly hard work paid off to highlight the strengths of our residency program!!

They spent many late nights uploading documents and preparing for the visit - we are all grateful.

Save the Date - 9/3/20 12-1pm Centura CME is HRO PHYSICIAN TRAINING VIRTUAL GRAND ROUNDS – more info to come

New point-of-care testing coming this fall!  Abbot ID Now Machine - POC testing for COVID, Flu A&B, RSV and Strep - Many details to come, we will have very clear protocols to do this safely

Each is a separate test that takes 5-15 min

COVID, Flu and RSV are anterior nasal - not considered aerosolized

Strep - is considered aerosolized so there will be a more detailed plan for this, including self-collection or sending to testing location

Testing only works on symptomatic patients – not a PCR test, no role here for asymptomatic exposed or "clearance" for work

Plan is for machines to be distributed with training between 9/1-10/1

Drive Through Flu Shots coming!

All Centura hospitals will have drive-through flu shots available this year (will be at 144th Health Campus)

The goal is to increase immunization rates and decrease office visits for flu shots.

We will still have flu shots available for patients seen in the clinic for other reasons.

Amwell Issues

CHPG leadership is actively working to address performance gaps with Amwell, particularly those noted the past 2 weeks

Please communicate about new performance issues you encounter

Pod meetings next week 8/27/20

We got great feedback on our joint pod meeting last month!

This month we'd like to try a hybrid approach on Zoom - we will start with a joint meeting for the first 30 minutes and then break into individual pods for the last 30 minutes.

  • There will be 2 separate Zoom meeting invites for this
  • Staff in clinic – we are working on a plan for you to fully participate in meetings with video/audio if you don't have that available. We want to hear your voices, too 😊

Colorado Public Health Data – see below

Note Daily Positive Increase trending down in recent days! Also Colorado is "in the yellow" on the national map – "Slow Disease Growth".

Positivity rate is still above 5% (5.5%) but Infection Rate is below 1.0 (0.84) right now which is great news.

PPE Recommendation Changes- Protective Eye Wear

Protective Eye Wear (e.g. goggles or face shields) is recommended by CDPHE for staffing providing direct patient care in communities with moderate to substantial COVID-19 transmission (5% prevalence) due to the risk of exposure to asymptomatic individuals.

Recommended Protective Eye Wear:

  • Eye-wear, including face shields, does not replace the need for other  indicated PPE (e.g. respirator, facemask).

Direct patient care= mask, gloves + eye protection.

  • Face Shields- Reusable, 1 per associate from supply. Additional have been ordered with expectation delivery next week.
  • Goggles that are fully enclosed protects the orbit (eyes) can be ordered from McKesson.
  • Glasses don't count as protective eye-wear, but can have attachments to provide additional side protection.
  • Patient Service Representative do not need to wear eye protection while sitting at your desk behind the Plexiglass shields, but you should wear it when walking through the clinic!
  • Eye-Wear is encouraged to wear when you walking through the waiting area or any other areas where you will be within 6 feet of patients.
  • Approved Eye-Protection:

COVID Testing

Change Eff 08.03.2020

  • COVID-19 Testing Updates: Lab Change, College Students

Lab change to Biodesix

  • Biodesix is replacing LabCorp for our COVID-19 PCR testing in Colorado, which changes processes associated with ordering and care teams' handling of those orders.
  • Several CHPG drive-up testing sites have updated their days/hours of operation.
  • Centura has secured committed testing volume from the partner we use for our pre-procedure testing: Biodesix, a private laboratory located in Boulder, CO. We anticipate a more consistent turnaround time of 24-48 hours from time of specimen pickup.

What do Colorado care teams need to know?

  • The name of the COVID-19 order has changed from "COVID-19 PCR LabCorp" to "COVID-19 PCR Biodesix." You can also search for the lab ID: LAB5467.

Testing asymptomatic college students

  • We are testing asymptomatic college student patients to support their return to campus, which requires different diagnosis coding.

What do Colorado care teams need to know?

·         Students need to be an existing CHPG patient or become established as one.

·         Use the diagnosis code Z71.89 for "asymptomatic students requiring COVID test to return to school."

·         This new diagnosis code has been added to the Epic tip sheets.

·         CHPG clinics in Kansas should continue to use their existing testing processes.

Occupational Health RTW Changes

  • Test result Positive -10 days since symptom first appeared AND 24 hrsafter resolution of sxes/fever without use of medications (changed from 72 hours)
  • Test result Negative –return 24 hours after no fever
